Need help with your child who is an outside the box learner? Read here. cultofpedagogy.com/underperforming-students/ Tips 1.Have students get into the habit of showing you their agendas. We write in the agendas at the beginning of every new unit and students write down the important dates. Visit my teachers website for same information. 2. Every week students need to get into the habit of creating a schedule from the time they get home till they go to sleep every day including their chores, tests and important reminders. This creates and help achieve and account for student responsibility. 3. Make sure you have access to the iScience Book for your students book with the Connect ED account. iScience Connect Ed has practice quizzes/tests, videos and worksheets. 4. The only materials that go home are the vocabulary flashcards (once graded), the study guide and the unit of study pages (if lost they can be reprinted or another book can be purchased to be kept at home). 5. Studying should be done by practicing possible questions, quizzing each other and writing down definitions in your own words. Studying is not waiting till the last minute and just memorizing and cramming in information. 6. Be an active reader at home. Take notes in the margin, highlight important details and ask questions to help clarify. 7. Think outside the box if your child wants to learn more at home take them to the library, use the internet to help them peek their interests in whatever topic/subject they want to learn more about. You never know where it may lead, perhaps a college major or a career! Parents: Assist in reinforcing the idea and skills associated with student responsibility. If a student forgets their vocabulary cards at school over the weekend, please help me in teaching them that they need to be more responsible in the future and that there might be consequences for them not remembering to bring their vocabulary cards home. They might fail their vocabulary quiz. That is a life-lesson. It is a consequence of their actions or lack of actions. Practicing personal responsibility is a skill that requires trial and error. That's okay, they will learn to do better next time. *Questions regarding particular grades? Please ask your child first regarding why they got that grade. More often than not they know why but please still feel free to email me. If your child is absent please let me know and since stations do not go home they will be assigned book work depending on how many days they are out. However it is their responsibility to get the work and turn it in on time. Grades on Quizzes/Tests with a D/F will need to be signed and returned. Thank you all for your assistance and genuine interest in helping your child at home. |
